About us
IFBA was founded in 2008 by the CEOs of leading food and non-alcoholic beverage companies to empower consumers to eat balanced diets and live healthier lives, in support of the World Health Organization’s efforts to improve global public health.
We’ve expanded our actions over the years through a series of core commitments designed to support UN and WHO strategies. Our commitments reflect the mandate to the private sector set out in the 2018 UN Political Declaration on noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and we believe these will remain the most impactful areas for food industry action on nutrition and health.
We proactively and publicly report on our progress annually, and collaborate with all involved to find bold, smart, diverse, and sustainable solutions to address global health challenges. We are on a journey. We’ve made great progress, but we know there’s more to do. And we will go further.
World Health Organization letters
Our members are committed to innovating to create new & improved products and smaller portions, empowering consumers to make informed choices, collaborating with all stakeholders to find bold, smart, diverse and sustainable solutions to global health challenges, and inspiring others in our industry to step-up and take action.
We are innovating and improving the nutrition of our foods and beverages; empowering consumers to make informed choices through clear, nutritional information on product labels, online and at point-of sale; restricting advertising to children and ensuring any child-directed marketing is compatible with healthy behaviors; and promoting healthy, sustainable living through a range of company initiatives.
We continually challenge ourselves to scale up these commitments, recognizing that even greater efforts are needed to improve global health. Good health is good business and we are committed to helping shape a healthy, sustainable food system for people and the planet.
